Officers from the West Bloomfield Police Department are investigating a fatal crash that happened Thursday morning.

According to WBPD Deputy Chief Curt Lawson, the crash was reported to the dispatch center at 10:02 a.m. April 12 in the area of Pontiac Trail and Halsted Road.

“We’re still conducting an active investigation,” said Lawson.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash: a Honda Insight, driven by a man with no passengers, and a Lincoln MKZ, driven by a woman with no passengers.

The man was traveling east on Pontiac Trail, and the woman was traveling west on Pontiac Trail when the crash occurred.

“Witnesses at the scene stated the female driver was passing in a no passing zone,” said Lawson. “Our traffic investigators are working to confirm that.”

The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken from the scene to St. Joseph Mercy Oakland hospital in Pontiac.

The man was taken from the scene to Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills, and was later pronounced dead.

There is no further information about the drivers at this time.

Pontiac Trail was closed to traffic following the accident, but was slated reopened at around 1:30 p.m.
