MACOMB TOWNSHIP — The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash that took place Sept. 7 in Macomb Township and has left a man in critical condition.

At 9:30 p.m., sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the area of 21 Mile Road and Sanborn Drive, where a 2017 black GMC Sierra had struck a pedestrian. The vehicle, being driven by a 56-year-old Shelby Township man, was headed westbound on 21 Mile when it struck the man crossing the road.

The area of Bournemouth Road and southbound Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods is open again after an incident Sept. 5 in which a manhole cover blew several feet into the air.

DTE Energy is currently investigating what caused the incident.

DETROIT — A deadly crash involving a Harper Woods man shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 at Chene Street Aug. 23.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:25 a.m. Michigan State Police troopers who are investigating the matter said a Chrysler sedan carrying a single driver struck the median wall and veered across all four lanes of traffic. The cause of the crash was still being determined as of press time.

Police continue to investigate a car crash that took the life of Cassandra Hunter, 27, of Innisfil, Ontario, on southbound Interstate 75, south of Crooks Road, in the early hours of Aug. 20.

According to a police report, Hunter was a passenger in a black 1984 Mazda R7A being driven by a 29-year-old man from Innisfil, Ontario, at 1:30 a.m. when a 35-year-old Warren man driving a red 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck rear-ended the Mazda, causing the Mazda to catch fire immediately.

Multiple people are recovering in a local hospital following a police attempt to apprehend three men wanted for stealing wheels and tires over a span of multiple years.

According to a news release from Lt. Michael Shaw, of the Michigan State Police, at around 9 p.m. Aug. 21, troopers from the Metro South Post were contacted by the Western Wayne Community Resource Team to assist with the arrest of multiple people allegedly involved in a larceny from auto ring.

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Local residents and those planning to attend the 100th anniversary Selfridge Air National Guard Base Open House and Air Show Aug. 19-20 are advised that traffic volumes around the base will be heavy both days, and leading up to it.

Selfridge officials say attendees are strongly encouraged to arrive early, as traffic-related delays at the gates are common during the show. In addition, when the base reaches visitor parking capacity, access to the base will be restricted.

A woman was killed while crossing Woodward Avenue at Square Lake Road early in the morning Aug. 11, according to police.

Sgt. Kim Comerford, of the Traffic Investigations Unit of the Bloomfield Township Police Department, said the woman was crossing the road around 5:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11 when a 2014 Dodge Caravan traveling northbound on Woodward struck her in the roadway.

At approximately 8:54 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, Shelby Township police and fire personnel responded to a serious injury crash involving an unhitched trailer and a 2007 Pontiac G6 on northbound M-53, north of 25 Mile Road.

Shelby Township Police Lt. Scott Trumbo said the initial investigation showed that the trailer had been improperly secured to the truck that was pulling it; as a result, the trailer became loose and, at some point, came to rest in the right northbound travel lane.

Police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old man who was found lifeless in a ditch Aug. 6 after leaving a graduation party in Rochester Hills.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the man, who was identified by police as Christopher Morgan, of Rochester Hills, was killed after a hit-and-run accident on Avon Road, between Crooks and Adams, sometime after 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP —  A 16-year-old L’Anse Creuse High School student has been charged in a June 12 multivehicle crash in Macomb Township.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office reports that the teen is being charged with two felony counts of reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function.

The accident happened on 21 Mile Road at Creekside Boulevard at approximately 10:39 a.m. after students had been released from school early after final exams.

MADISON HEIGHTS — A man who fell off a scooter he was operating was pronounced dead July 24 after being struck by an SUV in Madison Heights. 

The incident occurred early in the morning, just before 5 a.m., on Dequindre Road north of 11 Mile Road. Madison Heights police were notified via a 911 call from a nurse who witnessed the incident and attended to the victim at the scene.

First responders from St. Clair Shores were on the scene of a fatal accident on eastbound Interstate 94, at 12 Mile Road, at 5:51 a.m. July 18, according to Michigan State Police.

According to an MSP press release, a man was walking on the freeway, and “at approximately 5:55 a.m., information was dispatched that the subject had been struck by a car.”

Police believe the 46-year-old Roseville man ran from the westbound lanes of I-94 and then climbed over the median wall, running into eastbound traffic on I-94 before being struck by a 2015 Jeep Wrangler.

No injuries occurred following a three-vehicle crash and fire that shut down Interstate 696 lanes near Woodward Avenue for nearly a week.

Work on the roadway and median began June 12 and concluded the morning of June 17.   

MDOT workers were on the scene throughout the work week resulting in intermittent lane closures on both sides of I-696. The closures fluctuated between one and three lanes at a time. The lane closures — predominantly on the westbound side of the freeway at Campbell Road — caused backups during rush-hour commutes.

According to Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Renee Yax, Kevin Michael Emery was driving his Harley Davidson motorcycle west on 23 Mile Road, between North Avenue and Card Road, in Macomb Township at approximately 5:31 p.m., when a motorhome pulled out from a business and onto westbound 23 Mile Road.

WARREN — A 37-year-old man remained hospitalized and continued to recover at press time June 8, days after Warren firefighters pulled him from a collapsed trench at a construction site on Van Dyke between Chicago and 13 Mile roads.

Warren Fire Commissioner Wilburt “Skip” McAdams said the man, a resident of Howell, was freed at 9:35 p.m. June 6 following a nearly two-hour rescue operation. He said firefighters were dispatched at 7:38 p.m. and arrived at the scene within five minutes, where other workers and Warren police were attempting to dig the man out.

At approximately 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, the Shelby Township Police and Fire departments responded to a report of a serious injury accident in a residential neighborhood near 21 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.

Lt. Jeff Daniel said a Shelby Township man in his mid-40s was operating a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck with a cap on it when the man lost control of the vehicle near Harry Street and Messmore Road.

A 57-year-old Eastpointe man is in “extremely critical condition,” according to Roseville Police Chief James Berlin, after a crash occurred at Tim Hortons on Groesbeck Highway north of Martin Road at approximately 7:30 a.m. May 30.

Police believe the man was driving out of the restaurant and failed to yield before driving onto southbound Groesbeck.

“He was pulling out of a Tim Hortons and failed to yield to traffic on Groesbeck, and was hit broadside,” said Berlin.
