Teens arrested, arraigned in carjacking

FARMINGTON HILLS — Two 16-year-olds accused of robbing, unlawfully imprisoning and carjacking a 34-year-old woman sitting in her car at the Dunkin’ Donuts at Eight Mile and Grand River will have their day in court July 17.
The woman was allegedly robbed of her phone and purse in the July 11 incident at about 3:40 p.m., and was driven a distance in her car. She was able to escape unharmed, according to the press release.
A 47th District Court official confirmed for the Press that the teens, who are not being identified due to their age, were arraigned July 12 in the court, and a preliminary examination conference is set for the pair at 1:30 p.m. July 17 before Judge Maria Parker.
One suspect is charged with one count of armed robbery, two counts of carjacking, three counts of unlawful imprisonment, and four counts of receiving and concealing stolen property (motor vehicle).
The second suspect is charged with one count of armed robbery, two counts of carjacking and three counts of unlawful imprisonment.
They are both being held at Children’s Village in Pontiac and each has a $500,000 cash/surety bond set for the charges.
According to a Farmington Hills Police Department press release, Farmington Hills detectives found the woman’s vehicle by using GPS technology. After locating the victim’s car, they made two arrests shortly after in Detroit, near the Lodge Freeway service drive near Six Mile.
Farmington Hills detectives arrested a third suspect at his Roseville home July 11.
Farmington Hills Police Chief Chuck Nebus said in the press release that one of the suspects arrested was released.
“He was the 17-year-old passenger in the Farmington Hills victim’s car-jacked vehicle,” he said in the press release. “The 16-year-old driver of the car-jacked (vehicle) … is believed to be the gunman who robbed and forced the … victim back into her car.”
The investigation is ongoing.
