TROY — Popular favorites and a few new contenders will bring their A-game to the 26th annual Taste of Troy March 4 to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Troy.  The theme this year is “black and white.”

“What could be more fun than savoring the delicious cuisine, enjoying great music, live and silent auctions, and winning raffles while raising money for a great cause?” said Cindy Stewart, chair of the event.

Restaurants compete for a number of awards, including the Critics’ Choice and People’s Choice awards.

In addition to the food, attendees can bid on gift baskets, sports tickets, spa services, and hotel and restaurant gift certificates in a silent auction. WDIV-TV meteorologist Andrew Humphrey will once again conduct a live auction.

Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse and LoLo Potluck, which serves Mediterranean cuisine, join the lineup this year. Other Taste of Troy restaurants include:

• Achatz Handmade Pie Co.

“We do a lot of community events. We try to be involved,” said Rebecca Bullock, marketing and fundraising coordinator for Granite City Food & Brewery. Her children joined the Boys and Girls Club of Troy after she learned about it through her involvement with Taste of Troy. Granite City won the People’s Choice Award last year for braised short ribs with creamy polenta.

This year, Granite City will serve herb-encrusted rack of lamb with stout (beer) demi-glace and wild mushroom risotto.

“We bring something different every year,” Bullock said. She noted that most restaurant menu items feature beer brewed on site.

“It’s (Taste of Troy) a great way to let people know we’re here,” said Lora Kubit, sales manager for McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks. The restaurant took the People’s Choice Award last year for the best display, based on the theme of the 25th anniversary for the event. It has been involved in Taste of Troy for the past 12 years.

“It’s a very good cause. We’ve always been involved in the community,” Kubit said. “It’s a very enjoyable event.”

This year McCormick & Schmick’s will serve up seared ahi tuna, a popular menu item.

According to the organization’s website, the Boys and Girls Club of Troy “is a nonprofit youth development organization that provides educational and recreational activities to more than 1,200 children ages 6 to 18 in Oakland and Macomb counties.”

The club is located at 3670 John R Road.

Billy Sims, a No. 1 draft pick who played for the Detroit Lions 1980-1984, will be on hand at this year’s Taste of Troy with restaurant owner Dave Harris from 1 to 2:30 p.m. This is the fifth year that Billy Sims Barbeque has participated in the event.

Taste of Troy will be held 1-4 p.m. March 4 at the San Marino Club, 1685 E. Big Beaver Road. Advance tickets cost $45 per person, and tickets at the door cost $55 per person. For advance tickets, call (248) 689-1687 or visit www.bgctroy.org.
