BEVERLY HILLS — On May 3, Groves High School Amnesty International and Animal Rights Club is inviting the community to bring their four-legged friends to the 2014 Tails and Trails Dog Walk.

The festivities will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 12:30 p.m. at Beverly Park. The event is jam-packed with activities, including a group dog walk along the scenic trails of the park, as well as  a variety of competitions and contests, a bake sale, raffles, and an adoption station. There will also be agility demonstrations from My Hero Dog Training.

Preregistration for Tails and Trails is $15 and includes a goody bag and T-shirt. Registration on the day of the event is $20, and includes a goody bag and T-shirt, if available. Proceeds from the event benefit Paws-n-Claws No-Kill Animal Rescue.

“Our favorite part of the event is seeing all the participants enjoying the different events with their dogs,” said Groves student Shelby Kassab. “We also enjoy knowing how much our work is appreciated by the Paws-n-Claws No-Kill Animal Rescue. We are passionate about animals because we feel we have a responsibility to care for and love our best companions.”

Tails and Trails was created four years ago by former Groves student Lucy Mailing, and it typically brings 40-50 residents out to the park. The Amnesty International and Animal Rights Club also hosts blanket and towel drives each year, and works to educate the community for Human Rights Awareness week.

“Throughout the year, we participate in smaller community service events that benefit people, as well as animals,” said Groves student Alex Boutrous. “We generally work to inspire our community to take action to help those in need.”

Those interested in Tails and Trails are asked to bring a completed registration form to Groves High School, 20500 W. 13 Mile Road, or Premier Pet Supply, 31215 Southfield Road.
