BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — A Bloomfield Township family is grieving today over the death of a six-year-old girl, who drowned last night in her grandparents’ indoor pool.

According to reports, police and fire responded to the 1700 block of Morningside Way just before 9 p.m. yesterday on reports of a drowning.

Upon arrival, officers found family members performing CPR on the girl. She was rushed to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, but doctors were unable to revive her.

Sgt. John Weise of the Bloomfield Township Police Department said the girl was visiting her grandparents’ home, and her family has been notified. To respect their privacy, police won’t disclose the residency of the girl, her name or her parents’ identity at this time.

Police say it’s unknown how long the child had been in the pool before she was discovered, though the family said they had last seen her about 30 minutes before she was found. She’s thought to have entered the pool area alone.

“We’re still investigating, but there appears to be nothing suspicious about it,” Weise said. “It appears to be nothing more than a horrible accident."
