EASTPOINTE/ROSEVILLE — Dating back to 1960, the Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce’s Salute to Excellence dinner honors individuals, youths and businesses in the community. This year’s awards will be at Eastpointe Manor, 24611 Gratiot Ave., Sept. 21.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner following at 6:15 p.m. Tickets cost $25 per person for adults and $16 for children ages 4-16. Tickets are free for ages 3 and younger.
The awards recognize recipients in Eastpointe and Roseville in the following categories:
• Police Officer of the Year.
• Firefighter of the Year.
• Citizen of the Year.
• Business of the Year.
• Capital Improvement.
• Pioneer Award.
• You’ve Made a Difference.
• Educator of the Year (Elementary, Middle, High School and Instructional Mentor).
• Student of the Year.
• Youth of the Year.
“One thing that is different this year is the Roseville Police Officer of the Year is the entire detective bureau,” said chamber Executive Director Linda Weishaupt.
According to Weishaupt, Roseville Police Chief James Berlin submitted the nomination.
“He wanted to recognize the bureau for the work they’ve done over the last year. There are nine recipients,” she said.
The Eastpointe Youth of the Year and Student of the Year recipient is Alyssa Ledbetter.
Ledbetter said being the recipient “feels amazing” and is a “huge honor.”
“It proves that all the hard work that I have been doing, and that I am going to continue to do, pays off in the end. When I told my parents that I was nominated and selected as Youth of the Year, they were not surprised; they are proud and happy with everything I have done and continue to do,” she said.
Weishaupt also added that this is the chamber’s first year of having an Ambassador of the Year award; Teresa West, of First State Bank, is the recipient.
Registration in advance is required for the dinner. Attendees must RSVP by Sept. 18.
