ROSEVILLE/EASTPOINTE — The Recreational Authority of Roseville and Eastpointe will host its fourth annual Sizzlin’ Summer Night event from 5 to 10 p.m. Aug. 3 at Kennedy Park, 24517 Schroeder Ave.

“RARE created this event as a way to thank the residents for allowing us to exist. If it wasn’t for the residents in Eastpointe and Roseville, we wouldn’t be here, so this is a way for us to give back to the community,” said RARE Assistant Director Bobbie Wilson.

All activities are free, and food will be available for purchase on-site.

Some activities will include airbrush tattoos, the Astroliner motion simulator, a petting farm, a theme craft area, an archery demonstration and a Lego build station.

The Hawaiian-themed event will show Disney’s “Moana,” rated PG, at 8:15 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Steve Floyd and Co. from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m.; the band will play Hawaiian- and Caribbean-themed music.

According to Wilson, there will be a character appearance by Moana. From 6:30 to 8 p.m., there will be an opportunity to take photos with the character.

The outdoor movie screen was donated by Park It owners Carl Gianotti and Tom Bommarito, who produce a family fun night tour in 26 cities.

“We believe in communities and residents coming together to enjoy their city parks and amenities,” Gianotti stated in an email to the Eastsider July 6.

Wilson added that she encourages residents to dress up with the theme in mind.

“Although it hasn’t been confirmed if we’re going to do a costume contest … they could dress up to get into the spirit of the event,” she said.

There is no backup date for the event, according to Wilson.

“We are praying for good weather,” she said.
