Police unearth marijuana growing operation

By K. Michelle Moran

A 59-year-old Park man may have taken the urban farming concept a bit too far.

At 11 a.m. Aug. 10, police executed a search warrant on the suspect’s home in the 900 block of Trombley and removed about five marijuana plants from the basement, Park Public Safety Capt. David Loch said. Loch said another law enforcement agency — which he declined to identify — had tipped off his department to a possible marijuana growing operation at that address.

The suspect, who was arrested at another location, appears to have been growing the marijuana strictly for personal use and not for sale, Loch said. No one else is believed to have been involved in the grow operation, he said.

Police obtained a search warrant from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, according to a report. The suspect, who is facing drug charges, doesn’t appear to have a prior criminal history, Loch said.

At press time, Loch said the suspect was slated to be arraigned in Park Municipal Court Aug. 13 on charges related to the search and seizure.
