Looking Back: Packard Proving Grounds
Here at the Packard Proving Grounds in 1937 stands grounds manager Charles Vincent alongside the family car and camper. According to Roberta (Vincent) Mocabee, who lived with her family in the Proving Grounds Lodge during the 1930s, her father, Charles, was very busy with his job and rarely took vacations. But the Vincent family did make occasional trips to Northern Michigan with their camper. The camper was a Pierce-Arrow Travelodge Trailer. Trailers made by Pierce-Arrow at this time were quite luxurious with all-wood interiors and top-of-the-line furnishings. The car was a 1928 Packard Model 526 specially modified to pull the heavy camper.
