Warren police said a 27-year-old Shelby Township woman was in stable condition and a Fraser man was in custody July 13, the morning after they were involved in a “road rage” encounter at 12 Mile and Schoenherr.
Warren Police Detective Sgt. Stephen Mills said the woman and a passenger were driving south on Schoenherr in a black Ford Fusion at about 6:30 p.m. July 12 when words were exchanged with the 20-year-old suspect behind the wheel of a red Chrysler Sebring.
According to a police report, the passenger said the driver of the Sebring had sped up to the bumper of the Fusion repeatedly as they travelled along Schoenherr before the exchange.
“As they parked next to each other at the light, he throws a brick at the car,” Mills said.
The driver of the Fusion reportedly got out of her vehicle to check for damage and started to call 911.
Mills said the suspect then accelerated and struck the woman, causing her body to fly into the air.
Good Samaritans who witnessed the incident reportedly stopped the driver of the Sebring in his vehicle in the adjacent 7-Eleven parking lot.
The Warren Fire Department arrived at the scene and were treating the victim as police arrived and took the suspect into custody.
The woman was transported to a local hospital, and was later transferred to another hospital and treated for a head injury.
Mills said the suspect was expected to be arraigned in the 37th District Court on July 13.
