Clinton business donates car

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — One Detroit resident’s Christmas got considerably brighter this year after receiving a new car, courtesy of a Clinton Township collision shop and a Harrison Township auto parts store.

“No one can top this Christmas present. No one,” said recipient Sharon Jacobs. 

For the second year running since it opened in 2011, Jim’s Collision Shop in Clinton Township, in association with the Bath City Business Consortium chapter of BNI, donated a car to an individual in need of transportation.

Paul Kowalski, owner of the Clinton Township Jim’s Collision Shop, said Jacobs’ name was drawn out of a hat containing 15  equally deserving names.

On Dec. 12, Jacobs was presented with the keys to a 2004 Chrysler Sebring donated by Ernie’s Auto Parts in Harrison Township and repaired by Jim’s Collision. She also received a $100 gas card from BNI.  Clinton Township Trustee Kenneth Pearl and Clerk Kim Meltzer were present.

Jacobs said she had been without a car for about three months, not being able to afford to replace the motor in her old car.  Since then, she has had to rely on bus transportation to get to and from work, extending her commute from 20 minutes to two hours, she said.

It’s one of those things that happens to other people, and now it’s happened to her, she said.

“It was just a blessing,” Jacobs added. “I’m still in awe. This was just a weight lifted off my shoulders.”
