EASTPOINTE — Eastpointe’s summer concert series brings out residents from near and far to hear different bands perform timeless hits in the plaza behind Eastpointe’s City Hall.
The next concert will be at 6:30 p.m. July 19 with Denise Davis and the Motor City Sensations, a group that plays rhythm and blues, Top 40, pop and funk.
Cadillac Cowboys Jerry Tittle, Tim Dubay and Mark Manko — playing classic rock and country — brought out the “best crowd this summer” July 5, according to Public Information Assistant Bill Driskell.
When concertgoers weren’t dancing to the tunes, they were singing along in their seats with the band in the shade.
Barbara Oleyar, a Chesterfield Township resident, follows the band and danced to a majority of their tunes throughout the evening.
“They were at Center Line Memorial Park and the band said they were going to be here, so I came,” she said.
To gain confidence to go out by herself after her husband died in 2004, Oleyar turned to dancing.
“I told myself I wasn’t going to sit at home and mope, so following this band and dancing has brought me joy,” said Oleyar.
Eastpointe resident, Jennifer Ward set up a popcorn and water stand to benefit the Eastpointe High School band.
“The students are going to band camp, so we’re raising money and we’re just trying to get some donations and have some fun,” she said.
Ward had to go through Eastpointe city officials to set up the popcorn stand.
“I talked to Bill (Driskell) and Randy (Blum), and they said it was OK to set up out here,” said Ward.
The city provided Ward with an extension cord and a table entering into the plaza.
Ward added that the concert attendees were enjoying the addition.
“We’re getting a really good response; they’re actually liking it a lot, and we’ve gotten a lot of donations thus far,” she said.
Popcorn and water will be sold at the the remaining Music in the Plaza dates.
