The body of a 37-year-old Sterling Heights man was found near the Clinton River in Bloomer Park at 6:41 p.m. July 28.
According to Lt. Stephen Jacobs of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office’s Rochester Hills substation, the man had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He had previously been reported missing by Sterling Heights police officials after his car was discovered near Bloomer Park.
A fisherman from Shelby Township discovered the body. Jacobs said the fisherman was with his family at the time of the discovery, but the man turned his family away while he investigated and called police.
The Sterling Heights man’s car, a 2009 Jeep Wrangler, was found at 6:38 a.m. July 27 parked on Second Street and Letica Drive, near the Clinton River Trail in Rochester, a police report states. The owner of the car had been reported missing and suicidal after a suicide note was discovered at his home.
Police found an empty gun case, a wallet and keys inside the Wrangler. According to the report, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and Rochester police K-9 and aviation units conducted a search of the general area, including Bloomer Park, and the Clinton River Trail before the body was discovered.
