WOODS — The spotlight will shine brightly on Grosse Pointe North High School alumna and Broadway star Sandra Joseph when she returns to her alma mater for a special engagement Nov. 30.

“Music of the Night, an Evening with Sandra Joseph” will feature Joseph in solo numbers along with performances from the Grosse Pointe North choirs, selected soloists and members of Mack Avenue Dance.

Showtime is at 7 p.m., and the event will be held at the Christian A. Fenton Performing Arts Center inside North High School, 707 Vernier Road. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Grosse Pointe North Performing Arts & the Sandra Joseph Performing Arts Scholarship Fund.

Joseph, who graduated from North in 1986, sang all the way to Broadway, where for nearly 10 years she played the role of Christine Daaé in “The Phantom of the Opera.”

Joseph, who resides in San Diego with husband and “Phantom” co-star Ron Bohmer, is using her experience on the stage to become an inspirational speaker, workshop leader and author. Her new book, “Unmasking What Matters: 10 Life Lessons from 10 Years on Broadway,” is set for release Jan. 23, 2018. It coincides with the 30th anniversary of “The Phantom of the Opera” Jan. 26, 2018.

“I want to use my voice and the platform ‘Phantom’ has given me to inspire people to shed their limiting identities, their masks,” Joseph said in a prepared statement. “I want to help people move through self-doubt and live lives that are the truest expression of who they are inside. The tools I share give people the mental, emotional and spiritual loft to create the life they desire without in any way trivializing the demands of the journey.”

Sean Kifer, who teaches at Parcells Middle School in Grosse Pointe Woods and directs the theater shows at North, said Joseph has visited North in the past for workshops with the students.

“We’re very excited,” Kifer said of the upcoming show. “Besides her vocal and acting talent, she has a heart of gold. She wants to give back to everyone — to the schools, to the kids, to the community. She’s a great person. You want to be associated with her.”

Tickets cost $40 for the VIP package, which includes a ticket to the show, a copy of Joseph’s new book and a post-show meet-and-greet opportunity; $25 for the main floor package, which also includes a copy of Joseph’s new book; and $15 for the general admission balcony tickets. Tickets can be purchased at Wild Birds Unlimited, 20381 Mack Ave. in Grosse Pointe Woods.
