HARPER WOODS — Michigan State Police troopers are investigating an incident of road rage in Harper Woods that resulted in the firing of a gun.

The incident occurred at 7:40 a.m. Dec. 20 on Interstate 94 near Allard Avenue. Michigan State Police officials said the victim was traveling in the left lane of eastbound I-94 when he encountered a red Chevrolet pickup truck with Kentucky license plates driving in the same lane.

The victim flashed his lights to signal the driver to move over, and when the driver did not do so, the victim drove around the pickup truck. The pickup then pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle, produced a handgun and fired a shot before speeding away at the Eight Mile Road exit of I-94.

“We work closely with the Michigan State Police, and they released the vehicle description to our department and several others,” said Jim Burke, chief of the Harper Woods Department of Public Safety. “We haven’t had an incident like this in Harper Woods in a long time, and fortunately no one was hurt.”

There were no injuries reported, nor was there any damage to the victim’s vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the matter is being asked to contact the Michigan State Police Metro North Post at (248) 584-5740.
