BEVERLY HILLS — The village of Beverly Hills is promoting some communitywide spring cleaning with its community garage sale.

Beverly Hills residents can register at Village Hall to have their address added to a list of homes taking part. People wishing to peruse the sales can pick up a copy of the list from the hall or on the village’s website, www.villagebeverlyhills.com.

“To join in, people can stop by the village office, pay $3 for a permit, and they get two garage sale signs — which we encourage people to use instead of using their own signs — and we put their address on a list of homes taking part in the sale that the public can use to find the different sales,” explained Ellen Marshall, the clerk and assistant village manager of Beverly Hills.

The sale will take place Friday, June 2, through Sunday, June 4. The sales will go on at the individual homeowners’ conveniences, but there is a village ordinance stating that garage and yard sales have to take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The sale is organized by the village, but each individual sale is solely the work of the resident taking part.

Marshall said she thinks this event is a great spring addition to the community and something that’s good for the village, its residents and its visitors.

“This is our ninth year of doing this. We thought it might bring more attention to the village. A lot of people don’t know the village is here, and we thought (if) we collaborated our efforts and everyone had a garage sale on the same weekend, it could draw more people here.”

Sale organizers said this is a great way to get rid of things that residents don’t need anymore, and a chance to find something valuable on the cheap.

“We try to encourage people to take anything they don’t sell to donate those items if they don’t sell them,” said Marshall. “If you’re looking to declutter your home or get rid of some items you no longer use, this is a good way to get rid of a few things.”
