Police capture Roseville wallet thief

ROSEVILLE — A Detroit woman accused of stealing a customer’s wallet inside the Roseville Marshalls store in June is now in police custody following her Sept. 1 arrest in Detroit.

Deputy Police Chief James Berlin said that on June 1, 68-year-old parolee Norma Mary Abraham was seen stealing a wallet from the purse of a customer while the woman’s back was turned. When other shoppers confronted her, Abraham denied the theft, and later claimed to have found the wallet on the floor.

According to reports, the woman was able to recover her wallet, but Abraham became “extremely hostile” and fled the scene before officers arrived. Detectives were later able to identify Abraham and issue a warrant for one count of larceny from a person, a 10-year felony.

Abraham, who was arraigned Sept. 1 in the 39th District Court before Visiting Judge Matthew Rumora, was given a $50,000 bond, no 10 percent, due to her extensive criminal record and recent parole violation for similar crimes. A preliminary exam is scheduled for Sept. 15.
