Farmington Hills Harrison

League: Oakland Activities Association White Division

Last season: 7-4

Opening game: 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at Novi High

Offense

Key player: Tom Vento, senior, quarterback.

The Hawks averaged 25 points per game last season and hope to continue putting up numbers with Vento at the helm.

“This is his first year starting at quarterback, but he has a good arm, he’s accurate and he understands football,” coach John Herrington said.

Marquee matchup: The Hawks have four returning starters and get their chance against defending division champs Rochester Adams at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at home.

Defense

Key player: Kristian Malaj, senior, defensive tackle.

Harrison allowed only 16 points per contest in large part due to Malaj.

“He’s an extremely fast and relentless player that is difficult to block,” the coach said.

Marquee matchup: Malaj will need to be a disruption to the experienced Farmington High passing attack when the two rivals meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Farmington.

Special teams

Key player: Jake Vento, senior, punter/kick returner.

Vento also plays receiver and is the backup quarterback.

“He’s one of our best all-around players,” Herrington said. “Having him back as a punter, he’s a threat in a lot of different ways.”

Coach’s outlook

Though the division will be tough, as usual, Herrington fully expects his squad to be at the top of it when the year is over.

“We just have to continue improving and continue what we’ve been doing over the offseason,” he said.
