League: Macomb Area Conference

Bronze Division
Last season: 8-2
Opening game: 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at Marysville High

Offense

Key player: Brian Johnson, senior, quarterback

A backup last season, Johnson will get his chance to lead the offense in 2009.

The lone concern, according to coach John Moher, is the overall inexperience of the group. After scoring 322 points in 2008, only three starters are back.

“We’re hurting for experience on both sides of the ball, so Brian is going to have to step up and play well,” Moher said. “With that said, I’m very confident in him and what I think he can do.”

Coach’s outlook

When asked about the 2009 season, Moher said he is optimistic, but staying realistic. After graduating so much talent from the 2008 squad, he knows this season will be different — but not necessarily worse.

“Sure, it’ll be tough to be as good as we were last season,” he said. “At the same time, if we play the defense I think we’re capable of, we’re going to be in every game. … The goal remains making the playoffs. That’s something this group is capable of.”
