League: Oakland Activities Association White Division
Last season: 1-8
Opening game: 7 p.m. Aug. 27 against Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day at home

Offense

Key player: Shawn Conway, junior, wide receiver

The Maples have three returning starters and will count on Conway to be their big-play threat.

“He’s one of the most experienced players I’ve ever coached,” coach Chris Fahr said. “He’s tall, fast and very athletic, and makes a lot of great plays on the field.”

Special teams

Key player: Keith Otterbein, senior, return man

“He’s a very steady player that I have compete trust in to catch the football and make plays when he gets it,” the coach said.

Coach’s outlook

The Maples are looking to bounce back after a disappointing season last year, and hope to do it with a young squad.

“We’re extremely young. We have seven sophomores that are going to play for us, but I really have enjoyed coaching these kids,” Fahr said. “They do everything I ask of them, and I expect that every time we hit the field, they’re going to give maximum effort.”
