Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood
League: Metro Conference Offense While splitting time under center a year ago with Dakota Sherman, Corey displayed his athleticism by throwing for 592 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing for another 156 yards and four more scores. That, however, was when Cranbrook ran the spread. Now, under first-year coach Sean Clouse and the veer offense, he may be utilized even more. “His leadership and toughness are what I love most,” Clouse said of Corey. “He’s taken to this offense real well, and seems to have a great handle on it already. He’s going to make some plays for us this year.” Special teams Clouse called Wilhelm a “weapon” as far as special teams are concerned. A year ago on punt returns, he averaged nearly 20 yards every time he touched the ball and took one 78 yards for a touchdown. “He’s going to make some big plays, there’s no question about that,” Clouse said. “He’s also a great leader. That’s going to help, as well.” “That’s what we’re focused on right now,” he said of the Loyola matchup. “We want to get this season going on the right foot.” He did admit, however, that his long-term goal centered on getting the Cranes to the postseason. “A 6-3 record would be great,” he said. “I think we have a shot at that, too. We have to play our game, but six wins is a realistic goal.” — Mike Moore
