Dream Cruise sponsorship leads to new name

DETROIT — On June 17, Woodward Dream Cruise Inc. announced that metro Detroit’s annual classic car extravaganza will now be known as the Woodward Dream Cruise presented by MotorCity Casino Hotel.

The casino will become the presenting sponsor of the cruise beginning with this year’s 15th annual event, which will be held on Aug. 15 along Woodward Avenue from Ferndale to Pontiac.

In a prepared statement, WDC Executive Director Tony Michaels said that “MotorCity Casino Hotel has been a long-time entertainment sponsor of the WDC and we’re honored to have them become the presenting sponsor of the Woodward Dream Cruise. We expect this partnership to help our event grow even more in size and stature over the next several years.”

Added Rhonda Cohen, MotorCity’s chief operating officer, “MotorCity Casino Hotel is pleased to announce this expanded sponsorship. It is evidence of our deep-seated commitment to the Detroit area. Our brand has always celebrated Detroit’s automotive heritage, and what better way is there to demonstrate this than to step up our long-standing commitment to the iconic Woodward Dream Cruise.”

The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day celebration of car culture, attracting more than 1 million visitors and over 40,000 muscle cars; hot rods; and custom, collector and special interest vehicles. For more information about the 2009 event, visit www.woodwarddreamcruise.com.
