FERNDALE — Karen Twomey, 33, of Pleasant Ridge became the newest member of the Ferndale Public Schools Board of Education on May 5 after an election in which she faced no true competition.

Running unopposed, Twomey unofficially received 97.8 percent of the vote, or 615 total votes. The remaining 2.2 percent went to write-in candidates, who accounted for 14 total votes. On July 1, Twomey will replace longtime board member Vicki Brennan, who is stepping down after two decades of service to the district.

Ferndale Public Schools covers a region that includes all of Pleasant Ridge, most of Ferndale and parts of Oak Park and Royal Oak Township.
