Oakland County announces
second dose H1N1 clinics for kids
OAKLAND COUNTY — Children ages 6 months through 9 years old who received a first dose of the H1N1 vaccine at an Oakland County Health Division clinic can now receive their second dose at the Oakland County Health Division.
The second dose clinic will begin Nov. 30, and will continue until further notice at the Oakland County Health Division, North Oakland Health Center, 1200 N Telegraph Road, Building 34E, in Pontiac. Pre-enrollment is required, and walk-ins will not be accepted.
People can pre-enroll their children for a second 2009 H1N1 vaccination dose at www.oakgov.com/health. Pre-enrollment will allow people to select the clinic date and time of their choice, and also provides a consent form that must be taken to the clinic where they pre-enrolled. People without access to the Internet may call (248) 858-1200 to pre-enroll over the phone. Their consent form will be delivered to the clinic for the date they pre-enrolled.
In a statement, Kathy Forzley, manager and health officer of the Oakland County Health Division, said the new pre-enrollment system was developed to reduce lines: Only 100 children will be allowed to pre-enroll for each hour the second dose clinic is operating.
“It is important that children under 10 years of age receive their second dose in order to maximize their immunity against the 2009 H1N1 flu,” Forzley said.
To date, OCHD has vaccinated more than 38,000 people against 2009 H1N1 and provided more than 150,000 doses to hospitals and physicians in Oakland County.
