The 4th annual Shane Griffin Memorial Run will take place Aug. 13 at Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township.

The 5K race, which is scheduled to start at 6:45 p.m. at Eastwood Beach, is open to all runners.

The event is dedicated to honoring the memory of Shane Griffin, a Warren Fitzgerald freshman cross country runner who died following a car accident in 2004.

“It means a lot to the family to keep his name and memory alive,” Fitzgerald cross country coach Das Campbell said. “I know they appreciate it very much.”

The race entrance fee is $12. Proceeds will go toward scholarships for graduating Fitzgerald cross country team members.

“Hopefully, we can keep it going,” Campbell said. “It’s really serving a purpose right now.”

Seven former Fitz student-athletes have received money to be used for college since the first run.

Each participant will receive a T-shirt; awards will be given to the top three runners in 10 separate age groups.

Contact Das Campbell for more information at (586) 757-2273. Registration can be completed before the start of the race.
