Obama office opens in Clawson

CLAWSON — The second campaign office in Oakland County for presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama has opened in Clawson.

The office, which doubles as a headquarters for Gary Peters’ congressional campaign, was opened on July 26 as part of a wave of Obama office openings throughout the state. A total of 20 offices opened on July 26, said Brent Colburn, Obama’s Michigan spokesperson.

Peters, D-Bloomfield Hills, is attempting to unseat Joe Knollenberg, R-Bloomfield Hills, for the 9th congressional district.

“We plan to have 40 offices statewide with a 150 paid field staffers,” Colburn said about the Obama offices.

The local office, located at 516 N. Main St., is the site of a former florist.

Colburn said they would be sharing the building with other local Democrats running for office.

“It’s something we are doing in a coordinated effort,” he said.

Along with the office in Clawson, there is already an office in Pontiac, and Colburn said they plan to open an office in Southfield, as well.
