FERNDALE — At around noon on May 9, a young woman and her baby were hit by a car at the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Woodward Avenue.
According to Ferndale Detective Lt. Bill Wilson, details of the incident were sketchy, as it is still under investigation by police.
So far, the known information indicates that a car was traveling on southbound Woodward Avenue, and for reasons yet unknown, drove out of the traffic lanes, across the intersection, over the curb and onto the sidewalk on the south side of Nine Mile.
The woman was pushing her 2-year-old daughter in a stroller on the sidewalk when both were struck by the car. They were thrown about 30 feet by the impact of the crash.
The driver’s side of the car then hit the decorative wall in the median with its forward movement.
The woman, baby and driver were all taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Their conditions were unknown at press time.
However, Wilson indicated that both adults were conscious and talking and that the baby was moving and had a strong cry. “These are optimistic signs that their injuries may not be too severe,” he said.
