A CYO power

St. Anne tops St. Regis in CYO title game

The trip downtown may not be scheduled before Warren St. Anne Catholic Youth Organization seventh- and eighth-grade football team's season actually begins, but it might as well be.

On Oct. 25 at Ford Field in Detroit, the Eagles captured its third title in the past five seasons after defeating Birmingham St. Regis 22-4.

It was the fifth CYO title in program history.

“That was the toughest game we played all year,” St. Anne coach Nick Sherevan said of the win. “This is great for the kids, though. They deserved to be here and deserved to win.”

“This was probably the most talented team I have ever worked with,” added Sherevan, who’s been with St. Anne for 33 years. “The chemistry they played with was unreal.”

The CYO championship game was part of a daylong celebration at Ford Field, as four CYO exhibition games and three Catholic High School League titles were decided, as well.
