FARMINGTON — It was only fitting that Farmington High sophomore Neno Jones’ third touchdown came on fourth down in the fourth quarter against Rochester High Sept. 19 at home.

The score — which made the game 24-14 and turned out to be the game winner — capped off a 16-play drive that lasted over seven minutes and included two fourth-down conversions before the final play.

“The offensive line put in a lot of work and got off the ball explosively,” Jones said. “I couldn’t of gotten through it if it wasn’t for them.”

Rochester scored in the closing seconds to draw to within three points at 24-21, but it was the Farmington defensive and offensive lines that made the difference.

“There was no run game (for Rochester), and we couldn’t stop the run,” Rochester coach Drew Kisabeth said. “You’re not going to win a lot of football games like that.”

Farmington took an early 10-0 lead after Jones scored his first of three touchdowns and junior Marco Iaderosa kicked a 27-yard field goal, but Rochester fought back.

Sophomore Nick Bradley hit junior Charles Holmes on two fades for touchdowns. The 6- and 15-yard scoring strikes gave Rochester a 14-10 lead at half.

Farmington took little time taking control in the second half, as Jones scored his second touchdown on the opening drive with 6:31 left in the third. His final score came with 9:47 left in the fourth.

Rochester’s last touchdown came on a 1-yard sneak from Bradley.

The win moves Farmington to 3-1 overall. It travels to Birmingham Seaholm at 7 p.m. Sept. 26.

The loss drops Rochester to 0-4 overall. The Falcons make the short trip to Rochester Hills Stoney Creek at 7 p.m. Sept. 26.
