Police say this suspect caught himself on tape attempting to attach a camera to an ATM.

Man caught on film allegedly planting camera at ATM

STERLING HEIGHTS — Police are searching for a man who caught himself on camera as, they believe, he mounted a video camera on an ATM to photograph bank account and personal identification numbers.

The incident occurred between June 1 and 3 at an ATM at the Comerica bank at the northeast corner of 18 Mile and Dequindre, police said.

“A customer discovered the device and reported it to police, and there was no theft, but it took this long to retrieve images off surveillance tape,” said Sterling Heights police Lt. Michael Reese.

Police described the suspect as a white male, 47 to 55 years old with gray and white hair, and wearing wire-rim glasses and a baseball cap.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact Detective Robert Kovalcik at (586) 446-2825.
